From the first time that we discovered this place, we knew it was special. There were so many different kinds of plants and wildlife everywhere we looked. Our first consideration was to keep it wild, preserve what was there, and dispose of the large amount of garbage that had been dumped there. We share the land with the creatures who were there before us.
We provide education about the kinds of animals that we have encountered in the area, as well as what kinds of animals are known to be found in the area and what to do if you have an encounter. We know that we share our mine with snakes (rattesnakes and other non-venomous snakes), tarantulas and other insects/spiders, a plethora of birds, rodents, big horn sheep, and evidence of coyotes and large cats. At our claim, all humans and animals are safe from hunting. The shooting of weapons is prohibited.
Our mine utilizes the same burro trail that has been in use since 1892. We are not using any heavy equipment, just our hands and hand tools. We have already done a large clean-up and will be improving the mule trail to the claim in the near future. This information will be updated as we continue to improve Columbia 23!
